In recent years, the landscape of healthcare in Japan has been evolving, with the emergence of online doctor services gaining significant traction. Known as "telemedicine" or “Online-Doctor (In Japan)” these digital platforms offer patients the convenience of consulting with healthcare professionals remotely, using video calls, phone calls, or secure messaging systems. Life in Japan is getting more and more convenient!

Convenience at Your Fingertips:

One of the most appealing aspects of telemedicine is its convenience. Patients can seek medical advice, treatment and prescription from the comfort of their own homes or offices, eliminating the need for time-consuming trips to clinics or hospitals. This accessibility is especially beneficial for individuals with busy schedules or mobility issues.

Access to Specialised Care:

Telemedicine platforms in Japan often provide access to a wide range of healthcare specialists, including those who may not be readily available in certain geographical areas. Patients can receive expert medical advice and treatment for various health concerns without the constraints of location.

Reduced Wait Times:

Long waiting times for doctor appointments can be frustrating, but telemedicine offers a solution. Online consultations typically have shorter wait times compared to traditional in-person visits, allowing patients to receive timely medical attention when they need it most.

Prescription Services:

Many telemedicine platforms in Japan offer prescription services, enabling doctors to electronically prescribe medications for patients. This streamlined process saves time and hassle, as prescriptions can be conveniently delivered to the patient's home or local pharmacy.

Multilingual Support:

For non-Japanese speakers, language barriers can be a significant obstacle to accessing healthcare services. However, certain telemedicine platforms offer multilingual support, making it easier for international residents and travellers to communicate with healthcare providers and receive quality medical care. *Mentioned at the end of this article :)

Limitations and Considerations:

While telemedicine has many benefits, it's essential to understand its limitations and regulations. Some platforms may only offer consultations for non-emergency medical issues, and patients may need to have a valid Japanese address or health insurance coverage to access certain services.

In cases of emergencies or serious health concerns, it's crucial to seek immediate medical attention at a hospital or clinic. Telemedicine is best suited for non-emergency situations and routine medical inquiries.

Conclusion:

The rise of telemedicine has transformed the way healthcare is delivered in Japan, offering patients greater convenience, access to specialised care, and reduced wait times. With the growing popularity of online doctor services, individuals can now seek medical advice and treatment with ease, regardless of their location or schedule. As an experienced patient of the telemedicine, it is more expensive than seeing a doctor in person, however it was almost on the spot with my booked time and quite easy access to see the doctor. I used the service for a lip herpes which we can't get proper medicine at a phermarcy without a prescription.

After some researches, OH Doctor is the one is ready to have non-Japanese speaking patients at this point. Their website is:
